Do you belive you can change your life by hearing God?
“And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.”
1 SAMUEL 3:10

Could the renewal we long for be in our ability to listen?
Creating time and space for our God is the first step, but our silence is the next. Hearing from God can change your life. But how can we hear from God if we are never quiet enough to listen?
Prayer and Bible reading are so important. But, if we do not stop and listen and contemplate, neither one has the space to truly reach our hearts.
Maybe you’ve built a daily Bible-reading habit. That’s great. But maybe like me, you sometimes treat the time like something to get through and check off of the to-do list instead of something that can be life-transforming.
Is My Bible Reading Time Part of The “To-Do List Rush”?
How many times do we rush through our devotionals and Bible reading to get through it? How many times are we praying and talking at God, telling Him all the things we think He should know about instead of listening to God and letting Him fill us? It’s good to release to God the things on our hearts. That can be powerful and bring greater peace. But He already knows. So maybe we should spend more time listening to what he wants us to know rather than telling Him what we know or think we know.
Our Heavenly Father loves us and wants to hear from us. But I have to wonder how often He is saying, Oh if my daughter would just listen I could move in her life in such a powerful way.
So often we don’t provide Him the opportunity to speak.
In this fast-paced world being still and quiet is hard. It is something we need to practice. I know it is definitely something I need to practice more. I want our daughter to grow up enjoying stillness and quiet, and know how to bask in the Lord’s presence. It starts with me.
Prayer and Bible Study are for our transformation. God does not need to be transformed. We do.
What if, like Samuel, we paused and said, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening?”
And, allowed God to speak what we need for the transformation and renewal of our hearts.
It could be life-altering don’t you think?
Ponder His Mercies:
What would happen if I took a notebook into my prayer time and asked God what He wants me to know?
Will you try it with me? If you do not hear anything at first, be persistent. If you expect to hear from God, when you spend time with Him, you will. We can hear from Him. Let’s be careful to learn to discern His voice and pray for the Holy Spirit to help us listen and hear what our hearts and minds need for each moment. And let’s start writing what the Lord has to say so we can remember His Goodness.
John 10:4 “…and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.”
Prayer Time:
Lord, your servant is listening. I pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Speak now to my heart. What do you want me to know?

Very good article. I have recently started praying. I am still not very good at it but I am trying my best. I have read many times we should listen to God as well and not only talk ourselves. I have written down your prayer and next time I pray I will ask him for guidance and I will sit in silence to hear him. Thank you!
Aww thank you for your response Aleksa. I will pray for you. Prayer can feel overwhelming if we think we have to do it a certain way but all it is a way to build a deeper relationship with our Heavenly Father. He sees you and He hears you. Much love.
