“Pick Presence, Not the Feed. What do you really need? And who do you want to be? Pray.”
That’s what my lock screen says right now with an adorable picture of our toddler checking my pregnant belly with her plastic doctor kit. Because they’re my reason why.

And honestly? I don’t know how many mindless scrolling sessions it has saved me from but I need the reminder every day.
It’s so easy for us to reach for our phones and go into a mindless scroll as Mommas. And it’s not because we’re bad parents. We’re just often overwhelmed, tired, and just looking for a little relief or “me moment.”
As a Christian mom, I know my phone can be both a blessing and a distraction. It helps me connect with friends, run my business, and even read my Bible. But it can also quietly steal time—time I could be spending with the ones I love and the One I need the most my Savior.
I got the idea to create a lock screen that reminds me not to scroll from That Calm Mom over on Instagram, who has a course on stopping the mindless scroll.
That daily reminder to check in with what I really need before I unlock my phone makes me think.
That’s why I started creating Christian iPhone wallpapers just for moms—gentle, grace-filled reminders to pause, breathe, and choose presence before unlocking our phones.
In this post, I’ll share:
- Why visual reminders matter so much for moms in our busy, tech-filled world
- Biblical encouragement for being more present
- Practical, doable ways to limit screen time
- A set of free Christian mom wallpapers you can download right now
Why Christian Moms Need Gentle Phone Reminders
Our phones are almost always in arm’s reach. We check them without thinking—when we’re bored, when we’re overwhelmed, even when we’re already in the middle of something.
But here’s the thing: what we give our attention to, shapes who we become.
Ephesians 5:15-16 (KJV) says:
“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Whew, I litterally just had tears come to my eyes sharing that scripture. I’m pregnant, ya’ll so the tears come a bit easier these days but I am feeling more and more that Jesus is coming soon. How will He find us spending our time and nurturing these precious little gifts, these little people He created through us?
A wallpaper with a short, powerful reminder sounds like a small thing, but it can work as a pattern interrupt. It can make you pause just long enough to choose differently. Instead of jumping into social media, maybe you pray. Instead of checking email, maybe you watch your toddler’s latest “singing performance” in the living room. Our little girl loves her play baby grand piano.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about small, holy pauses that shift our attention back to what matters.
The Power of Visual Cues
God designed us with senses that respond to visual triggers. Just like a sticky note on the fridge can remind you to drink water, a phone lock screen can remind you to seek Him first.
Here’s why it works:
- It’s unavoidable. You have to look at your lock screen before you can unlock your phone.
- It meets you in the moment. The reminder comes right when you might start scrolling.
- It ties to your values. If the words align with your faith and your priorities, you’re more likely to follow through.
Biblical Perspective on Presence
Presence is one of the most powerful gifts we can give our children. When Jesus was here on earth, He noticed the people right in front of Him—the woman at the well, the blind man calling out, the children who wanted to come to Him.
Psalm 90:12 (KJV) says:
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
Colossians 3:2 (KJV) reminds us:
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Being present with our kids isn’t just about memory-making—it’s about obedience to God’s call to love well, right where we are.
And ya’ll, I’m sharing this from a heart of conviction not because I’ve arrived.
When I was in the first trimester of this pregnancy, I felt so tired, far more than I remember feeling the first time around. I do have an added toddler this time around, and also nauseous. And I found myself checking out with my phone more and not even realizing I was doing it. I actually talked about this in another post and podcast episode but I gave our 3-year-old permission to remind me if she sees me on phone.

But I’m still working through these tips too. Jesus help us!
Practical Tips for Limiting Screen Time as a Mom
Here are a few simple, grace-filled ideas you can start today:
- Use phone-free zones.
Keep your phone in another room during meals or playtime. - Set app limits.
Use your phone’s settings to limit social media to a set amount of time each day. - Replace scrolling with Scripture.
Swap one Instagram check for one Psalm reading on your Bible app. - Create “open and close” times.
Decide when in the day you’ll check messages—and stick to it. - Keep your hands busy with something else.
A puzzle with your kids, folding laundry while singing worship music, or a quick walk outside can break the screen habit.
Carefully Curate Your Feed
I’ve worked to carefully curate my social media feeds, and honestly, I get a lot of Christian mom encouragement and God-centered content when I scroll. But I still don’t want staring at a phone to be how my family remembers me.
So I make the effort, while far from perfect, to use real books and a real Bible, and real focus when our daughter is around. I still fail all the time, but I’m working on it. They learn not by what we say but what they see us do after all.
And then when I do get a break alone, I can carefully choose to scroll for a few minutes and glean the inspiration.
Have you ever watched someone staring at their phone when it’s getting dark, and that halo that comes from the phone shining in their face? It looks eerie, doesn’t it? It makes me sad. We weren’t meant to live lives through a screen.

Final Encouragement
Mama, this isn’t about guilt or perfection. It’s about grace. It’s about remembering that God entrusted us with little lives to love, and that our attention is one of the greatest gifts we can give them.
Let’s be women who check in with the Lord before we check in online. Let’s be moms who pick presence over the feed.
And the next time you go to unlock your phone? May the first words you see lead your heart closer to Him.
Lord, help us to set our eyes on You, redeem our minutes, and love well in the moments You’ve given us. Amen.
