Hey Momma, grab your favorite drink and find a cozy spot for this one, because if you’ve ever felt like you’ve lost your spark under piles of laundry and endless to-dos, this post is for you, sweet friend.

I know what it’s like to feel like there’s just no room in the day for anything extra. Especially anything creative. Maybe you’ve thought: What’s the point of starting a project if it’s just going to get interrupted or left halfway done? Or maybe you’ve been in a season where your ideas feel flat and your energy is even lower.
I so get it. When you’ve got spit up in your hair and haven’t slept more than 4 hours in three nights, creativity is not top of mind. But I’ve learned as I have transitioned from season to season with our daughter that God made me a whole person with a need to create. And He made you that way, too, Momma. And I’m so passionate about this topic that I recorded a podcast episode on how God made us in His image as creators.
So let’s chat about what it means to be the creative woman God made you to be—even in the thick of motherhood. And it doesn’t have to be about traditional creativity like painting or pottery, though that can be fun too.

First, let’s get this thought out of the way- pursuing my passions is selfish.
You’re Not Being Selfish, You’re Being Faithful
One of the first things that hit me was this idea: your creativity isn’t a distraction—it’s part of your calling.
That’s not always easy to believe when you’re knee-deep in toddler messes and trying to answer emails with a baby on your hip. But it’s true.
God placed those creative desires in you on purpose. For me, He gave me this blog and podcast as a business, ministry, and my creative outlet. For you, things may look completely different, and that’s more than ok. God made us all with different aspects of Himself for different purposes. You might feel like motherhood has pushed your creative dreams aside, but what if this season is actually a beautiful part of how He wants you to use them?
Let me say it louder for the mamas in the back: you can be a present mom AND a creative woman of God. These two things are not at odds. They were meant to live side by side.
Start Small—Tiny Acts of Creativity Matter
This isn’t about launching a business or writing a book (unless that’s something God’s nudging you to do). He did that with me. But, sometimes creativity looks like doodling during nap time, rearranging your living room, decorating your planner, or even experimenting with a new meal for dinner.
Have you ever thought about how many things moms have created out of need? Whole businesses have been started by moms because their children brought out needs that they saw in the world. Reusable diapers, the dishwasher, the foot-pedal trash can are just a few. Moms can be the most creative people if we can look past the daily and dare to dream.
You don’t need a 3-hour window or a studio setup to get creative. You need five minutes and a willing heart.
✍️ Try This: List 3 ways you like to express yourself creatively. What’s one small way you could include that this week—even if it’s just 10 minutes?
While my online work keeps me creative, it is work, and sometimes I need something else to refuel my passions. One thing I discovered that I can enjoy and use to relax is learning to draw on the iPad. It’s simple, and I can pick it up and experiment at any time.
And for those entrepreneurial mamas among us, let me just say we do not need to turn every one of our creative passions into a business. Some things need to be kept for fun!
Whatever you choose to do to fuel your creativity, know that it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to bring you life. My iPad drawing is pretty poor at this point, and that’s ok. And you know what, if I get really good at it one day, I may want to use it in my business, but then I will find something else just for fun too!
You Don’t Have to Be Her
In a world of becoming “that girl,” here is a needed reminder: comparison kills creativity.
When we start scrolling and see someone else’s perfectly edited reels, her styled home, her consistent Etsy updates… we start shrinking. But God didn’t ask us to be her. He asked us to be faithful with what He’s placed in OUR hands.
We often look at the Proverbs 31 woman as the ultimate example, but she wasn’t looking at what everyone else was doing and trying to be like “all the moms.” The Bible says, She looketh well to the ways of her household.
“Create for the audience of One.” Let’s create unto the Lord and be faithful growing what He’s given us.
Creativity Can Be Worship
Something I’ve learned is that when I make time to create, even in the middle of motherhood—it connects me to the heart of God.
He is the Creator, after all. And when we create, we’re reflecting Him.
For me, that might look like writing this post while my daughter naps. Or designing something simple in Canva that speaks life to other moms. It’s not fancy, but it’s sacred.
✨ Don’t wait until everything’s quiet and perfect. Create in the middle of the mess. God meets you there.
Action Steps: How to Start Creating Again
Want to take this from inspiration to action? Here are a few simple ways to gently step into creativity this week:
- Keep a “Creative Sparks” journal—write down every idea, no matter how small.
- Set up a tiny creative corner, even if it’s just a spot at the table with your favorite pens or paints.
- Set a timer for 10–15 minutes. Create without guilt, without overthinking.
- Invite your child to join you—make art, build blocks, cook something new together.
- Pray before you create. Invite God into it.
Something that encourages me to keep creating is knowing our daughter is watching me. By giving myself permission to be creative, I’m giving her permission too!
Let This Episode Remind You
You don’t need permission from me, look at what God’s Word says,
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27
Created to create. Whether it’s a cute snack or a beautiful painting, you’re creating your life day by day, whether you realize it or not. I pray that this episode will bring your awareness to it, and you will begin to create intentionally after your Creator. Make it a beautiful life, Mama!
And don’t create “despite being a mom,” but because you’re a mom. Let your children grow up watching you walk in the gifts God gave you, not burying them out of guilt or exhaustion.
Mama, if you’ve been craving something more… if you’ve felt stuck, dry, or even invisible… I want you to know that God sees you. And He hasn’t forgotten the passions He placed in your heart.
