Being a mom in today’s world can feel like a constant tug-of-war between being fully present with your kids and keeping up with all the things. Do you struggle with it too, or is it just me?

With phones buzzing, laundry piling up, and to-do lists running through our minds 24/7, it’s easy to miss the moments that matter most.
In this post (and in the podcast episode I’m sharing below), we’re talking about simple and realistic ways to be a more present mom, without adding more pressure or guilt to your plate.
Why Presence Matters More Than Perfection
Your child doesn’t need a perfect mom. They need a present one. The kind who pauses to smile, makes eye contact, and really sees them. The kind who puts the phone down and joins them on the floor for 5 minutes of block-building or snuggles up with no agenda.
Presence builds trust. It strengthens your bond. And it turns ordinary days into core memories for your child.
But how do we stay present when life is so distracting?
Let’s talk about it…
The Power of Naming Your Distractions
Sometimes the first step to being more present is simply noticing what pulls you away. Is it your phone? Is it trying to multitask everything at once? Is it mental clutter and the endless invisible to-do list?
I had a heart-to-heart moment with my 3-year-old recently, and I told her: “You can tell Mommy when I’m on my phone too much.” Giving her permission to hold me accountable was such a humbling and healing step.
When we name our distractions, we take away their power to run our day.
Here are a few reflection prompts to help you:
- What steals your attention most often?
- What time of day do you feel most scattered?
- What would it look like to pause for just 2 minutes and re-center?
Remember, it’s ok to tell your kids and your spouse you need a couple of minutes when the overwhelm is starting.

7 Simple Ways to Be a More Present Mom Today
You don’t need a big lifestyle overhaul to feel more connected. Try one or two of these gentle presence-building ideas:
- Phone-Free Mornings: Start your day without screens. Stretch, sip your coffee slowly, and focus on eye contact with your kids.
- Create a Presence Cue: Choose a daily cue (like your coffee brewing or writing in your agenda for the day) to remind you to breathe deeply and check in with your child.
- 5-Minute Play Check-In: Say yes to just five minutes of uninterrupted play. Your child will feel seen, and you’ll feel less pressure.
- Narrate Your Day: Talk out loud to your child about what you’re doing. It keeps you grounded and builds their language skills.
- Tech-Free Zones: Designate spaces like the kitchen table or bedroom as no-phone zones.
- Eye-Level Moments: Kneel down and make eye contact when your child talks to you. It changes everything.
- Bedtime Gratitude Ritual: End the day by sharing 3 things you loved about your time together.
Try a Social Media Fast (Even Just for a Day!)
Social media isn’t all bad—but sometimes, very often, it becomes background noise that dulls the beauty of our daily lives. And it is a setup for the comparison trap that can destroy our peace.
You can start small:
- Take a 1-day break from all the social media scroll
- Stretch it to a full weekend (you’ll be amazed what you notice)
- Silence notifications and move apps off your home screen
Notice what changes:
- Are you more patient?
- Did your child say something sweet you might’ve missed?
- Did you feel a little lighter?
