I love watching our daughter play on the playground as much as the next momma. But when it comes to the spiritual world around us, we must remember we’re on a battlefield.
How do we fight?

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1 PETER 5:8
We’re not on a playground, we’re on a battlefield.
There is a whole spiritual realm, a battle between good and evil going on behind the scenes. And while that may not be something we like to dwell on, the enemy is after our families. If we’re going to stay committed to God, we must take note.
Peter warns us that we have an adversary seeking to devour. Fortunately, our God is so much stronger and has a host of angels to help us in our Christian walk. However, we must do our part to stay sober and vigilant.
No matter who we are or how close to Jesus we think we are we can still fall. Peter knew this first hand which is why his words of warning to us are so strong.
Peter walked and talked with Jesus as a close companion. He witnessed the miracles Jesus performed with his very own eyes. He knew Him. And he swore to Jesus that he would never deny Him. He went so far as to say the others maybe, but not I.
When a woman said that he had been with Jesus, Peter replied,
“Woman, I know him not.” Luke 22:57
Peter went on to deny Jesus two more times, in just one night, just as Jesus said he would.
Peter wept bitterly. Jesus forgave Peter and if we ask Him, He will forgive us the same. But, if only we were vigilant to prevent this pain.
By staying in Daily communication with our Lord and Savior, reading His Word, listening to His voice, and dwelling on His promises, we can stay focused and resist temptation. Let us not give the enemy a single foothold in our lives. Let’s not a door to him in our hearts or homes. May we cover our families with the blood of Jesus every single day through prayer.
And if we do let our guards down and fall, let us lay our shortcomings at the feet of Jesus.
Ponder how to stay vigilant:
How can I stay more aware and vigilant in my daily walk with Christ? How can I make sure my family is covered?
Prayer to the One who Already Won the Battle:
Lord Jesus,
Please forgive me for any time in my life when I have denied You, not only with my words but with my actions too. Help me to remember my enemy so I stay vigilant in my time and walk with You, but also to remember that greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
Cover our families with the armor of God and the blood of Jesus. Don’t let the enemy have a single foothold in our homes or hearts.
I bring all my shortcomings and lay them at your feet Lord. Like Peter, I weep for all the times I have hurt You. Forgive me, Lord. Help me stand strong for You in my words and in my actions always. And to remember to cover my family in prayer.
Thank You for winning the battle for me Jesus.
Show me if I’m making idols out of anything in my life instead of turning to You. Thank you for everything, Jesus!
Amen.
