Feel stuck in the past? It’s time for a fresh start momma! He makes all things new!
“ Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
ISAIAH 43:18-19
We talked in the last devotional for moms about heading northward away from the mountains that we have been circling for way, way too long.
I don’t know about you but I love a fresh new year. But I am so thankful that we don’t have to wait for the start of a year to get unstuck and find renewal. We can find it any time. But how?
How can we move forward? Praying and listening to God is the way to start. Next, it’s important to stop looking where you have been and look at where you are going. The rearview mirror doesn’t show what’s possible.
We can learn from our past and we can go to God in repentance for past mistakes. In fact, we must. But, then we have to leave those mistakes, those circumstances, the “could’ve” and “should’ve” behind.
The rearview mirror is for backing up when needed, but not for getting to your destination.
God is trying to do a new thing within us, but we keep letting the enemy open our file of past regrets before us. Like Lot’s wife, we look back and disintegrate into a pillar of unusable salt. We let the past take away our power and our forward motion stops. We stagnate.
It’s not a good feeling and it’s not what our Heavenly Father designed for us.
So, if you feel like you have lost your momentum today, know that God has new things in the making.
It’s time to stop reliving the past and listen to what the One on the Throne is telling us,
“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
REVELATION 21:5
I love the word that the King James Uses there: BEHOLD
That word calls us not just to see but to observe and inspect: “I make all things new.”
That means YOU. That means me. God and God alone can make us new. But, only if we allow Him.
Ponder His Mercies
Am I holding on to past regrets and the mistakes I’ve made? Am I allowing the enemy to bring things back up that God says to consider no more? How is this affecting myself, my home, and my family?
Write your answers in your prayer journal and pray with me…
Prayer For New Things
Heavenly Father,
If there are things from my past that I need to repent of, bring them to my mind and help me to submit to You humbly as I ask for forgiveness. Help me to accept Your forgiveness because Your Word says that Your grace is sufficient for me. If there are things I need to let go of, I lay them aside now by the strength of Jesus. No matter the circumstances, You are powerful enough to make rivers in the desert. And, you can bring refreshment to my life. I claim Your promises of renewal. May a new way spring forth.

Thank you for sharing! I was recently invited to speak at a Christian Women’s Conference about Letting go. It is so liberating once we let go, but acceptance isn’t always easy, it’s often hard and we need to acknowledge it as well as all our feelings…only then we can move on.
