Do you have a vision for your life or are you feeling stuck in the throws of life and motherhood?

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
PROVERBS 29:18

You hear a lot in the business and productivity world about having a vision. A brand vision. As with all wisdom it comes from the Bible.

You hear this scripture used often at the beginning of the year when planning time comes but we can regain our vision any time of the year. Every day is a new opportunity to set a goal and re-evaluate our vision. We need to have a vision, write it down, and keep it in front of our minds and hearts. It gives life to our bones.

Often reciters will forget the second half of that verse- happy are we if we keep God’s law. So how can we make keeping God’s law and honoring Him part of our family vision, our vision for motherhood?

Maybe the vision spoken in Proverbs 29:18 is not meant to be our vision, but the vision God has for our life and work. The vision of keeping His commandments and honoring God in everything we do. Washing dishes, reading to our children, running a business with love and grace. All of it.

God calls each of us to heed His vision and keep His precepts. Why? Is it because He just likes to make up rules to see if we will keep them? No. They are for our good to help us live the best lives we can. So we may be blessed.

It’s good to have goals to work for and systems in place to use our time and resources as faithful stewards. But let us not forget that our ultimate goal in all things is to bring honor and glory to our Creator. Not through striving with burdensome rules but through the transformation of our hearts.

In one of my favorite stories in the Bible the Prophet Ezekiel witnessed what a lack of vision and a lack of God’s words can do. It dries the bones. But also how God’s Word can bring us back to life.

“And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest. Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.”
Ezekiel 37

Ezekiel recognizes that the bones are not just dry, but they are “very dry.”

How could such very dry bones come to life?

Only by the Word of the Lord.

In Proverbs chapter 3 we see that it is knowing and keeping God’s commandments that bring health to the navel and marrow to our bones. They are Words of Life.

Did you know that a large part of our emotional health depends on how healthy our gut is? It took science years to discover the gut-to-brain connection. Something the Bible had already told us centuries ago. Our immune systems and emotional health depend largely on our guts.

As for our bone marrow, it’s responsible for creating our stem cells and then that creates our blood cells. The essential requirements of life.

We serve such an amazing Creator!

Way before scientists were conducting stem cell research God’s Word told us all the necessary components that make up our bodies and lives.

What did happen to those very dry bones Ezekial talked about?

Verse 10,

So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

Life is what happened.

So momma if you are feeling dry and deserted read and contemplate the words of life and be renewed.

Ponder Your Valley

Is my life and work and motherhood feeling more like a valley of dry bones than a life-giving stream? How can I make God’s Word and Precepts an active part of every day?

Know God’s Words are Hope and Life even resurrecting dry bones.

Prayer Of Life

Creator and Father, I know your Words are life no matter how dry I’m feeling. You can bring me back to life. You can put life in my marriage, in my work, in my motherhood, in my housekeeping, in my spiritual life, in everything. May you be the vision of my heart and fill me up so I’m a stream rather than a dry valley.

Renew me and teach me to ponder and speak your words daily so they fill my soul. Help me to be faithful in seeking you and finding my renewal and restoration in you. May I not be a hearer only but a doer of your life-giving Word.
