Are you struggling to fit self-care into a busy mom life? I’ve got a weekly self-care printable download for you today to make it easy to gamify self-care.

But before we get into that grab your favorite hot beverage and let’s chat…
I have a few self-care posts here on the blog but I have to admit I don’t love the term self-care. When it comes to our personal care as moms I feel like it’s really family care. That old adage if mom ain’t happy ain’t nobody happy has truth in. As mommas, we do hold a lot of power to set a peaceful tone.
We cannot be at peace and set that tone if we’re tired, grumpy, and overwhelmed. Self-care is just one part of more joy and less stress. We need to be productive, have dreams, and work towards our goals while giving to others. However, self-care tends to be one of the first areas to be neglected when we get busy.
I pray this little self-care calendar will help fuel you and that will spill over to a better family life. I have included a done-for-you weekly calendar and also a blank template. You can use the blank template to create your own weekly self-care calendar. You can plan ahead and fill the whole thing out or use it to track daily as you come up with ideas for each category on the fly.
You can grab the self-care printable at the bottom of this post. First, let’s talk about the important categories of mom self-care.
Self-Care in 4 Important Areas
When it comes to self-care for us busy moms we can think about different important areas and come up with easy practical things we can do to nurture ourselves in each area.
Here are some key areas to think about along with some self-care activities:
Physical Health
As someone who has experienced a lot of struggle in this area in the past, I know if we’re not healthy it impacts every other area. When our physical health is not right, especially hormone regulation if affects our mood greatly. *I’m not a doctor. These are ideas that help me but are not meant as medical advice. If you need professional help please get it.
Keep things simple with goals like:
- Eat at least 2 nutrient-packed clean meals per day. (Think healthy fats like avocado and greens. These are great for giving us energy and keeping us more youthful.)
- Swap coffee or hot chocolate for something with more nutrients like matcha or raw cacao.
- Incorporate intermittent fasting by eating a later breakfast or earlier dinner.
- Exercise doing something you enjoy for 10 minutes per day. If you have a rebounder even 10 minutes can give you so many benefits.
- Go to bed earlier and work on sleeping well. It’s not just the hours of sleep but the quality of those hours. Yes, I know this is so hard in the midst of busy mom life.
- Get any check-ups you need and make sure you are not nutrient deficient especially if you are breastfeeding.
- If you’re really brave take a 2-minute cold shower in the morning. That will wake you up!

Mental Health
Motherhood is beautiful but hard. I say it all the time. It’s not only physically draining but it’s mentally draining as well. We need to keep little people alive and thriving. It’s a big job. Think about what you need to stay mentally sane.
- Pray and journal. This is life-changing if you can get into it. There is nothing more releasing for me than taking what’s on my heart to my Creator and Heavenly Father. Praying to Him by journaling out your concerns is so stress-relieving.
- Talk to a friend. Maybe you don’t have the community you need. Many of us don’t. But try to find a friend that you can talk to who understands the challenges of motherhood and will pray with you.
- Set healthy boundaries. I read a book called Boundaries by Doctors Cloud and Townsend (affiliate link) many years ago and have been feeling the need to revisit it. Healthy boundaries are so important with our children and in all our relationships. Often we suffer with our mental health because we are not setting clear and healthy boundaries. It can be a hard skill to learn but worth the effort.
Emotional Well-Being
This one ties into our mental health and physical health but there are extra things we can do especially for our emotional well-being. If you find yourself crying a lot and experiencing physical systems that you were not expecting and feel unusually overwhelmed you may be experiencing some postpartum depression. Please get the help you need.
- Connect with others. I mentioned talking to a friend under mental health but connection is very important to our emotional health too. Go for outings with your children. Try to find a church family if you don’t have one. Call and talk to your parents if you have a good relationship with them. Go out of your way to be kind to someone else who seems lonely. Just sending a message to check on someone can help us feel more connected.
- Keep doing activities you enjoy or find something new. Having hobbies that aren’t directly connected to mom life can go a long way in helping us feel like a whole person and improve our happiness. It can be anything from refurbishing furniture to painting to taking a Pilates class. Do something you enjoy.
- Practice gratitude. I know this is said so much that we get tired of hearing it but focusing on our blessings and what we do have greatly improves our well-being. There is so much research on this. It’s scientific. As you clean and do daily chores use that time to say the things you’re thankful for.

Spiritual Health
I don’t know how anyone survives without faith honestly. If you don’t have a relationship with our Creator and giver of life I invite you to get one from the bottom of my heart. There is no greater joy found in this world than with a relationship with Him.
- Read the Bible daily in light of relationship over information. This is something I just recently learned from Keith Ferrin and I am forever grateful. If you’ve been neglecting your Bible reading time, simply going through devotionals others wrote, or feel like you have been reading to just check it off your list I highly recommend checking out some of Keith’s advice. What if our Abba wants to spend time with us and have a relationship with us that truly impacts our lives? Something to think about.
- Get in nature. Be still. This ties into that relationship with God. What if we sat down with someone at a coffee shop, asked a list of questions, and then got up and left? Do you think a healthy friendship would form? But that’s how we often treat God. Let’s get out in His creation be still and listen to what He has to tell us.
- Reflect. How are things going, what are the struggles? What areas do we need to ask for more knowledge and wisdom? Taking time to reflect can be a very healthy spiritual practice.
This was the video that introduced me to studying relationally and internalizing the bible rather than simply memorizing it:
I’m not crazy about positive affirmations because it’s often trying to tell ourselves something we don’t really believe. But I do believe in affirming God’s word over ourselves.
