If you are feeling tossed to and fro momma it may be time for us to have a root check.
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
COLOSSIANS 2:7
To be built up in Christ we must first work on our roots. Becoming deeply grounded in the knowledge of Him and our relationship with Him. Then we have a strong foundation to grow and build on.
A mighty oak does not say when it is a mere sapling, “I’m really tired of this growing thing, I’m never going to be big and strong, so I think I will just stop soaking up the rain.” Or, “I’m good enough right where I am, I don’t need to get any better.” No, the tree continues to take in all the needed nutrients and continues to grow, with persistence, even when getting strong takes years. And growing is hard momma.
But recognizing that we are still putting down roots and growing helps us be more understanding and able to extend grace as our children grow.
As the roots continue to expand deeper the tree rises upwards.
The tree does not complain about the stage it is at or the growing pain. It just grows. We can go through our journey of growth with thanksgiving. Is it hard yes. Do I need this reminder? Every single day!
How different would life be if we could learn to appreciate each growth phase, knowing that God is doing good work in us that He will complete as promised?
As we continue to abide in Christ and grow, we add virtue upon virtue.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
2 Peter 1:5-7
Sanctification is such hard work. But it’s Christ that does the heavy lifting. We need to stay pliable like a tree swaying in the wind and allow Him to work. We’re saved through Christ and Christ alone. But, to grow up in him requires diligence, a continual work of progress. Ever learning, ever-growing. God did not give us this life to just survive it, to sit and stagnate. No, He wants us to grow.
Let’s Ponder Our Root System
What virtue do I need to work on most in my Christian walk, right now, to expand my roots deeper in Christ?
Prayer To Be Deeply Rooted:
Jesus,
I want to stay rooted deeply in You. Help me to work diligently to continue to grow adding virtue upon virtue. I know that You have so much more for my life than what I currently see. Help me be persistent so that I may be ready for all the plans and work You have for me. I know that the words I speak and the work I do with my hands will come back to me.
“A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompense of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.” Proverbs 12:14
May I be diligent in planting the good seed that pleases you, the seeds of Your Word, so that I may bear good fruit always. Remind me to be disciplined and persistent Lord.
